Dekel Keinan is set to sign for Blackpool in the next few days, the Gazette are reporting.

The Israeli international agreed a deal with the Seasiders weeks ago but complications with a work visa meant he hasn’t yet officially joined the club.

The 25-year-old provides good value for ‘Pool, who land a player with Champions League experience on a free from Maccabi Haifa.

Without knowing much about Keinan, he’ll definitely provide stiff competition for Ian Evatt and Alex Baptiste in the heart of the defence. The liklihood is that he’ll be an improvement and it could be that Baps is moved to right back.

With just over a week to go until the start of the season, Ian Holloway spoke about the challenge ahead: Blackpool is a wonderful place to be at the moment,’ he said. ‘No-one expected us to get here.

‘We did it on behalf of the town and we don’t want to make a fool of ourselves because it is a huge step up.

‘The Premier League can swallow you, chew you up and spit you out. It is a monster.

‘What we have to do is try our best, keep a smile on our face and take all the knocks that they give us.

In other news, The Sun are reporting that ‘Pool have put a £1.5m in for Stoke striker James Beattie. Whether Karl Oyston will want to pay that amount for a 32-year-old is up for debate.

Meanwhile, Danny Shittu is being linked with a move in a nominal deal.
