‘Kingson and Carney’ sound like a poor comedy duo, but Ian Holloway has seen enough to add them to his 25-man squad until January.

David Carney has signed on a one-year deal with an option for another from FC Twente in Holland.

The left back was awaiting clearance from the Premier League after official papers were faxed two minutes after the deadline on Tuesday.

But the authorities sanctioned the move and Carney will be in the squad to face Newcastle a week on Saturday.

The perhaps bigger signing is that of Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Kingson.

The 32-year-old had a brilliant World Cup between the sticks for Ghana – who were Africa’s main hope in the tournament.

After having frustrating spells at both Wigan and Birmingham in the past, Kingson will be looking to kick on at Bloomfield Road and claim the number 1 jersey off Matt Gilks.

Both ‘keepers have linked up with their national squads ahead of qualifying games.

Ian Holloway has only announced 24 players in his Premier League squad thus far, leaving a gap for a free agent to fill. Rumours are circulating, as they have been all summer, that Danny Shittu is being tracked after his release from Bolton Wanderers.
