McPhee completes Seasiders switch

McPhee was hoped to sign for the Seasiders late last week and make his debut against Barnsley in the FA Cup game on Saturday, however the deal never materialised and Grayson was forced to wait for his man to arrive.

Following the game, the manager revealed to Tangerine World that McPhee was set to undergo a medical this afternoon and become our first signing of the January window by tea time at the latest…and that’s exactly what has happened.

The Scotland-born forward had been at Hull City since 2005, after joining for a fee believed to be in excess of £400,000 from Portuguese side Beira Mar, however his best season in football came back in the 2003/2004 season as a Port Vale player, netting 27 goals that season to become Vale’s record goalscorer.

Stephen was on the scoresheet only 3 times for the Tigers in 40 appearances as his time with the club was plagued by injury. His last goal for the Yorkshire club came in the Championship fixture with Cardiff City back in December – a game which ended 2-2.

After passing a medical this afternoon, he has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of a further year for an undisclosed fee (although it is believed to be in the region of £200,000-£250,000 if recent speculation is to be believed).

His signing could pave the way for Keigan Parker to leave the club after refusing to sign a new contract and allegedly having met with Barnsley officials at some point in the last few days to discuss personal terms after a bid was accepted from the Tykes.

With Swansea and Nottingham Forest also rumoured to be interested in the Scottish forward, his time at Bloomfield Road seems to be numbered.

McPhee could go into the squad to face Charlton at the weekend if Grayson decides to shuffle his pack of players once again following the disappointing defeat to Barnsley this weekend in the FA Cup.
