National Football’s Recess: International Break

We’ve been asking for your thoughts this week on whether the break this weekend might help the Seasiders. There has been a mixed reaction but 52% of you reckon the free weekend is a hindrance.

This goes against Simon Grayson’s view. Larry is clearly pleased to rest his players ahead of another busy schedule coming up.

And that’s where the issue is. Having a weekend off is a good breather for the players. But then having to play Saturday – Tuesday – Saturday – Tuesday for the two weeks after the break means the players will be out on their feet come November!

It was certainly noticeable that Pool looked lethargic and in need of a rest during Saturday’s draw against Cardiff.

28% of you think the break does help, agreeing with Larry. I’m sure the Pool players, particularly those carrying knocks, will welcome a Saturday afternoon off. It’s a time for recharging the batteries for players and fans.

I would go along with the 20% who think the break is a help and a hindrance at the same time. Pool defintely needed a breather after the last three games but the run of five games in 14 days directly after the break will test the fitness and resolve of the players.

Having the international break is out of our control so I suppose you have to make it work for you. Larry has talked of getting the right combination between time on the sofa and time on the training ground, something which is an important but difficult balancing act.

At least we don’t have the three week winter break over Christmas!
