The rumours that Iain Dowie will be taking over at Blackpool at the end of the season look to have been quashed.

The former QPR gaffer is set to join up with Alan Shearer at Newcastle United, reports Sky Sports News.

Although Shearer’s spell at St James’ Park is initially only for an eight game period – which will see out this campaign – it is thought that he will continue at the helm beyond that time if he steers his hometown club clear of relegation.

And this could mean Dowie staying alongside him for the forseeable future.

Stories have been circulating about Dowie and Blackpool for nearly three weeks – since he was spotted at Bloomfield Road scouting for Fulham, casting an eye on the win over Norwich City. His scouting mission was the official line given, but led wild speculation on message boards about the managerial future of the club.

Facts surrounding his move to The Magpies seem unclear at present, but news that Dowie is joining another club, even in the short term, gives rumours that he’ll end up at ‘Pool come June less credence than before.
