Mark Haywood will be the man in black for Saturday’s game against Plymouth Argyle.

Haywood was the referee for ‘Pool’s humiliating 2-0 away League Cup defeat at Macclesfield Town back in August – sending off skipper Keith Southern for a headbutt on Terry Dunfield in the process.

Before that game he had only officiated The Seasiders once before – a 2-1 home win against relegated Port Vale which saw goals from Andy Morrell and David Fox.

He has seen himself rise up the football pyramid quite dramatically since he joined the league in 2006, and in fact only his second game at League One level was at Bloomfield Road.

This season he’s dished out four reds (half of which came at Moss Rose – one apiece for each captain) and 49 yellows in his 32 games; actually a bad record for this stage in the campaign, so fingers crossed for a sensible display from the main man for a change!
