When the fixtures were released last Wednesday, the vast majority of Blackpool fans were last groaning (a minority were looking forward to seeing Newcastle fans experience the Gene Kelly!): the Seasiders were scheduled to play Newcastle United at home before the completion of the Jimmy Armfield South Stand.

However, Blackpool Vital understands that the club in now working towards having the South-West corner of the new stand open for the game.

As stated on Blackpool Vital last week, the steel delivery for the new stand is due today, and those fans who kept an eye on the webcam over the weekend will have witnessed a crane being put into action, presumably to complement today’s delivery.

The company that has been contracted to do the steelwork has also been contracted to do other stages of development, and thus, they will be building the stand sectional.

This means that the South-West corner may be in a position to be open for the Newcastle game, adding 1,100 seats to the capacity of Bloomfield Road – raising the overall capacity to around 11,000. A few weeks after that, another 500 seats may come online, and so on and so forth until the stand’s completion.

Fingers crossed!
