Dundee United last night slammed transfer rumours linking defender Garry Kenneth and striker David Goodwillie with moves to Blackpool in a statement on their official site.

Media reports had suggested that the ‘Pool had had bids in the region of £1 million rejected for the pair – something that United vehemently deny.

The statement on their site read:

Despite ongoing and totally unfounded media reports today, Dundee United would like to make it clear that it has received no bids for any of its players.

Furthermore, the Club is unhappy that initial reports today regarding bids for two of its players was published without any confirmation from the Club and without the originator even making any contact with the Club. These unconfirmed reports have led to a flurry of speculation and phone calls to the Club and have had an unsettling effect on the Club as a whole, including its supporters.

Chairman Stephen Thompson said, ‘We have always had an open communications policy and, for example, were happy to confirm earlier this week that an enquiry – not a bid – had been made regarding one of our players. However, we are extremely disappointed that these subsequent unfounded reports have been made without any reference to us and have led to a flood of phone calls, emails and also concern from supporters. This is particularly unhelpful at a time when we are in the midst of selling season tickets for the coming season.

As a result of all of this, we are no longer prepared to comment on press speculation on these matters and our supporters should be aware that unless the Club issues a confirming statement, there is no truth whatsoever in any ongoing speculation regarding bids for any of our players.’

Might just be me, but I can’t see why they’ve got their knickers in such a twist? Unless of course Kenneth and Goodwillie are close to leaving…
