Vaughan: Ball In Club’s Court

David Vaughan has announced that he is happy to sign a new contract at Bloomfield Road and stay at the club beyond this season, but that the ball is firmly in the club’s court and that he will only sign a new deal that he feels is 100% right for him.

The Welsh wizard has lit up in the Premier League with his all-action displays for the Seasiders, and with his contract up in the summer, this has inevitably seen him linked to various other clubs, in particular Bolton.

Vaughan and his representatives are believed to have told BFC exactly what the player’s demands are, and Vaughan says it’s now up to the club to meet them:

‘I have told the club what I am after and it is up to them what they want to do.

‘I am waiting to hear back off them so we’ll see what happens.’

Asked by The Gazette whether he was hopeful about the club meeting his demands, Vaughan’s answer was rather telling:

‘Am I hopeful? I don’t know. Everyone knows what Blackpool are like, so I really don’t know what is going to happen at the moment.’

Nevertheless, Vaughan is settled here and more than happy to stay – provided the club make him what he feels is an acceptable offer:

‘I am really happy here and the team is playing well, and my family are settled.

‘I think the club should maybe have come to me a bit earlier about a new contract, but that is their policy on how they do things so it is up to them what they do really.

‘I could speak to different clubs in January with a view to the summer, but I’ve heard nothing, the club has heard nothing, and the future will sort itself out really.

‘I am happy to stay if it can be sorted. The deal has to be right for me and, obviously, also for the club.’

However, it is Vital’s understanding that it’s not just the wages on offer that are an issue with Vaughany, but also the length of contract on the table.

Nevertheless, also speaking in today’s Gazette, Blackpool manager Ian Holloway says that the club won’t pay over the odds to retain the services of certain players:

‘Take the likes of David Vaughan and Matt Gilks, both out of contract at the end of the season.

‘We have made them offers and we want them to stay.

‘But are we going to go crazy? No because if we push it for one or two, we will have to do it for them all eventually, and that is something my chairman won’t do.

‘What we have to do is run the club efficiently and successfully for the fans, for the future.’
