Club Statement

Blackpool FC yesterday released a club statement which has produced a strong reaction among Blackpool supporters. The statement outlines the legal action being taken against David Ragozzino, with two actions being brought against him. The Oystons are unhappy with a story published by Mr Ragozzino on the internet regarding an encounter between Karl Oyston and Steven Reed involving a shotgun, which Karl Oyston has claimed to be entirely false. The Oyston family are also unhappy with the pitch invasion against Lancaster City which Mr Ragozzino reportedly led and with a number of posts by Mr Ragozzini accross the internet, which were described in the statement as ‘vile, lurid, and disgusting statements which were entirely untrue, including despicable attacks on players.’ David Ragozzino was told he would lose if he defended the case so consented to the judgement against him. The case for how much damages and costs he now has to pay has been adjourned to another day.

The statement generated a strong reaction among other Blackpool fans immediately after being published online. Whilst David Ragozzino’s account of events have been proven to be false and his postings on the internet may have been deemed malicious, suing fans for their money is hardly going to improve relations between fans and chairman and this is just another example of where the relationship between the two has completely broken down.

There has also been a fair amount of outrage at the lack of communication from the club on other matters compared to how quickly the club has issued a statement on this. There was no word on the relegation to League One or on how the club will be run during Oyston’s absence and manager Neil McDonald’s interaction with the press has been very limited by the club. Communication has to be consistent and not just on matters when it suits those running the club.
